Mammoth Cave

We went on a trip out to Mammoth Cave Kentucky last weekend. This was my 2nd time more than 6 ft underground (the 1st time I was in Ruby Falls). We went hundreds of feet down into the earth. I saw stalactites
and even some cave creatures (mainly cave crickets and a couple of gruesome spiders!) Earlier that day we went out on a day hike and I managed to get us lost long enough for all of us to walk a bit out of the way. I caught my mistake though...once I pulled out my trusty compass...Man those things are good... Needless to say we got back in time for the cave tour. Mammoth Cave Park is a great park that not only has caves, but hiking and backpacking trails for people to experience. They have clean campgrounds and if you really want to "rough it," they have a convenience store and shower house with in walking distance. If you plan accordingly, you can squeeze a good car camping trip in with your buds. From Nashville to Mammoth Cave KY its about two and a half hours. It a great destination if you are looking to get away but still be close to home! For more info on Mammoth Cave Park go here
